The Calgary Airport Authority Selects Lafarge Canada to Lead Paving Efforts for YYC West Runway Rehabilitation
Lafarge Canada announced that The Calgary Airport Authority, in collaboration with PCL Construction, has selected Lafarge as a contractor for the West Runway (17R-35L) Rehabilitation project at YYC Calgary International Airport. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the airport's evolution, enabling enhanced safety features, including shoulder expansions, storm management upgrades, and the realignment of vital service roads.
“We look forward to continuing our work with The Calgary Airport Authority and to be entrusted with such a critical project for Calgary and its neighbouring regions. Our focus remains on meeting the evolving needs of future generations while prioritizing community well-being and safety throughout the entire process."
Originally constructed in 1939 to accommodate aircraft significantly lighter than those in use today, the 3,863 m long by 61 m wide West Runway has undergone various maintenance projects over its 80-year history. However, recent studies have confirmed the approaching need for comprehensive rehabilitation to ensure its continued functionality and safety.
“Lafarge is proud to leverage our extensive expertise as a trusted partner. The revitalization of the runway marks a pivotal moment for the airport, and we are eager to turn this vision into a reality.”
The West Runway Rehabilitation project represents a significant infrastructure investment at YYC Calgary International Airport, and it is anticipated to boost operational efficiency and contribute to the city’s ongoing growth development.
The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.
