Infrastructure Rehabilitation: A Sustainable Bridge Repair With BMQ

Are you looking for similar expertise for your project?

At Lafarge Canada, we believe repairing existing infrastructure should be as much a priority as building new sustainable structures.  By extending the service life of these structures, we enhance durability in a sustainable, zero-waste manner. With BMQ, we're well-equipped to achieve ambitious Canadian sustainability targets. One example of this in action is the recent bridge repair project in Northern Ontario, which highlights our commitment to building better with less and making our communities more sustainable.

Project Overview:

Located on Highway 17 near Pioneer Rd, this bridge repair project was crucial for ensuring smooth traffic flow and maintaining the integrity of the railway crossing. Our team worked closely with the contractor to execute the project with precision and expertise. We applied a 40 mm concrete overlay, carefully chosen for its quick application, superior bond strength, and durability. This approach enabled a faster turnaround time for reopening to traffic, minimizing inconvenience to commuters and reducing air pollution from congestion. Our choice of materials and methods aligns perfectly with our business focus on green operations and sustainable construction practices, showing our commitment to the community and the environment

Key Achievements:

  1. Over 46 m3 of concrete was poured, ensuring structural integrity and longevity.
  2. Reduced bridge work time to just two weeks, compared to the standard six weeks with traditional concrete methods, resulting in 67% efficiency.
  3. Delighted owners and contractors with ease of use and exceptional outcomes.
  4. The bridge deck's service life was extended by at least 30 years, contributing significantly to long-term sustainability and cost-effectiveness while maintaining a zero-waste approach.

Working on this project wasn't just about repairing a bridge; it was about ensuring the safety and convenience of the community and our employees while embracing sustainable practices. Our team’s dedication and experience truly made a difference.
