SOPHIE WU
Regional Head, Geocycle, North America
In May 2019, Sophie Wu was appointed Regional Head of Geocycle for Holcim North America. In this position, she sits on the North America Executive Committee while managing an organization of more than 300 employees spanning 27 sites across the US and Canada.
Geocycle, a subsidiary of Holcim, is a leading solution provider of industrial, commercial and municipal byproduct management services. Byproduct streams processed by Geocycle and Systech are used as alternative fuel and raw materials for manufacturing cement, providing more environmentally sustainable solutions by diverting materials from landfills and reducing CO2 emissions.
Sophie leads her team in recycling an annual volume of more than 3.0 million tons of byproducts, reducing CO2 emissions annually by more than 2 million tons and generating annual profits of more than $140 million. She aims to double the business within five years.
She plays a significant role in accelerating green growth for a regenerative circular economy and delivering Holcim’s critical commitments to sustainability.
Prior to this role, Sophie served as the Head of Strategy, Merger & Acquisition for Lafarge Canada. She joined Holcim Group in 2005 and has held numerous roles of increasing responsibility throughout Malaysia, China, the US and Canada. In all, she has more than 18 years of successful manufacturing, international trading, strategy and marketing experience and P&L responsibility in the construction materials and byproduct recycling business.
Sophie holds an Executive MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in Illinois. Additionally, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Wuhan University of Technology in China.
